Dea Matrona

The great Earth-Mother, she is the protector of earth. She is a merged form of Modra, from the old Celtic ways, and Matrona the goddess of a river in Gaul.

Followers of Dea Matrona widely respect the power and prevalence of nature and all things wild and chaotic. They found the invading Romans repugnant, and still hold that their efforts drove the Italian scourge from the land. Her followers are directly opposed to Christianity, seeing it as a perverted, puffed up version of man’s ego. They believe that the sacraments and rules of the church and the kings that follow it are a plague on the Sacred Mother’s land.

They do not work overtly to overthrow their enemies, but instead harness the help of fey creatures to bring about the slow destruction of those they oppose. Wherever there is marked faerie mischief, it can be assumed that a cult of Dea Matrona is near.
